Over the weekend I organized a photography blitz, more of a personal project than anything else. With the theme of boudoir, not traditional boudoir with the over-the-top sexy poses.. but more soft and feminine .... all in the spirit of keeping it real. I'm so thankful for the wonderful women who embarked on my little journey with me. It was so much fun, lots of laughter and girl talk :)

I recently had a conversation with a client and she told me that she loved to open up the blog in the morning and see what I was up to. She loved the fact that not only was I was publishing my professional work, but that I was telling my story in images. It started her day off with a smile. This, just as I was questioning myself : Should I stick to only professional images on the blog or continue what I'm doing.

It's settled then .... I will continue to show you my crazy life in images..... because, after all :

The Froot Loop Chronicles

(or the art of eating a soggy bowl of cereal.)

There is something about a soggy bowl of cereal that makes my tummy sick, but my kids seem to enjoy it for some reason. (There are probably a lot of you out there, but I just don't get it.)

I may be a little unconventional as a mom, but I let my kids discover and get all dirty. I really do enjoy seeing them ask questions to themselves.. You can see it in their eyes. Most of the time, this ends up in me cleaning a mess, but that's perfectly fine with me.

The finishing steps are obvious... picking up the bowl and drinking the milk.

Oh, and my fave image of the morning... You see, this image wouldn't be possible without some of the tricks I have up my sleeve :) Little Miss holding her hands in front of her eyes, telling me in her 3 year old diva voice "No more pictures". So, I put down the camera.. and tell he, ok, no more pictures... but... since I've done this countless times before... I angle up the camera that I've laid on the table and wait. CLICK.

Yes, I've been having lots of fun with my new lens. I noticed the license plate on Professor Z yesterday and thought it would make for a great photo. For those of you not in the know, Professor Z is a character from the Cars 2 movie ... (excerpt from wiki) an internationally wanted weapons designer in a small, sophisticated German package. He is a brilliant, but mad monocle-wearing scientist who is plotting to sabotage the World Grand Prix.

......Une nouvelle tradition de noël pour moi.....

Depuis mon arrivée au Québec, il y a plus de 10 ans maintenant, j'ai découvert: votre poutine, la crème glacée mole (surtout celle des Chocolats Favoris !), votre fromage en grain et aussi, tout récemment… Le fabuleux pain au fromage !! Lorsqu'on m'a présenté le pain au fromage pour la première fois, j'étais très septique… Je répète… Très septique. Mais malgré le look, c'est étrangement bon !!

We celebrated my son’s fifth birthday today. My oldest daughter and I were up quite lateputting the finishing touches on his Lego cake. We had a blast. (OK, to be honest…. It wasn’t really a blast, it was real longputting those circles on.. one by one) :)

Since myson’s birthday is so close to Christmas. We don’t put up any Christmas decorationsuntil we’ve had his party. So thisweek will be a busy week of decorating and baking all those Christmas goodies,not to mention filling the stalking’s and wrapping the gifts..

To get meinto the Christmas vibe… I recentlyphotographed this little princess and her family in Pont Rouge. This is my 5^th photography sessionwith them, and I love the challenge of creating something different and unique tothem every time.

This photo was taken today. Since there were many cars behind me when I saw this, I had to drive a little more... then, turn around and come back. Again, it was around 3 pm.. I didn't have much time....the light was fading. My mom loves trees... this one is for her.

Last night at La Brûlerie St-Roch

Yesterday evening I met up with a friend I have not seen in aprox. 2 years. It was great to catch up and talk about the things we have in common, our projects, our families.... Too often we get caught up with our daily lives and last night was a breath of fresh air, breaking with the routine and doing something I have been wanting to do for a long time !

I ordered a coffee that well.. its name is a little obscene. If you have ever been to La Brûlerie St-Roch, you know exactly the one I am referencing. It was delicious and the late evening caffeine kept me up a little longer than I would have liked.. but so worth it !

I resisted the deserts. I'm so proud of myself !!!!!!!!

And as I walked back to my car... of course something caught my eye.

I do want to bring you all more slices of my life, not just the formal photography sessions (which I know you love)... but also the day to day. My camera is really an extension of who I am and how I see the world.. The people I encounter, the places I go .... these are my true sources of inspiration.

L’implication sociale a toujours été d’une grande importancepour moi… Partager ses forces, ses talents à des gens qui en ont grandement besoin.

It reallyis an honor to be recognized for my implication, but beyond that…. There are so many great projects; theinvolvement of dedicated people at the CHUQ is astounding. People who really do go above and beyond tobring comfort, hope.. Offering their smiles, their hearts to helping otherpeople.. These people make a difference. Some do it by their dedication to medical research, others byelaborating and implementing projects or donating their time to knit bonnetsfor premature babies. They are all STARS…every single one of them. I do hope youtake the time to read through the amazing projects… the people involved.... They are truly inspiring.

I couldn't resist taking a few images of the amazing talent that there is at the CHUQ.

Myinvolvement wouldn’t be possible without the help of three amazing women, Dre.Julie Laflamme, Dre Helene Roy and Mme Martine Tremblay. They really have been pillars throughout thewhole project. On se souvient des gens par des objets qui leurs étaient chers que l'on conserve. On se souvient des gens par leurs gestes ou leurs expressions qu'on voit dans les autres ou que l'on répète nous même. On se souvient des gens par ces images gravées en notre mémoire qui nous les rappelle…

Mais quels souvenirs conservons-nous de ces enfants, qui nous quittent trop rapidement. De ceux qui n'ont même pas eu la chance d'avoir pu quitter l'hôpital.

Une amie, que j'ai rencontrée après avoir débuté le projet MesAnges, m'a racontée qu'elle aurait aimé recevoir des images de son enfant décédé à l'âge de 3 jours suite à une naissance prématurée. Puisque qu'elle habitait la côte-nord à ce moment, qu'elle a dû être hospitalisée à 400km de chez-elle et que tout est arrivé si soudainement, elle a pu conserver qu'un seul cliché sombre de son enfant que l'hôpital lui a remise.

Pour moi, une image est plus qu'une représentation du moment présent, figé dans le temps. Une image raconte. C'est une histoire. Une image, même immobile, est vivante. C'est ce qui me motive à participer à ce projet. C'est une manière pour moi d'offrir à ces familles des souvenirs vibrants et durables. C'est un service que mon amie, quand je lui ai parlé du projet MesAnges, aurait aimé recevoir, pour avoir plus que ses propres souvenirs.

Merci Julie, Hélène et Martine. Vous êtes des femmes extraordinaires et il me serait difficile de participer à un projet comme celui-ci sans compter sur votre aide et votre appui.

Merci à mon conjoint de faire tout en son possible pour que je puisse m’investir dans ce projet en me permettant de me rendre disponibles quand les familles le sont.

I took this image around 3 pm today. As I walked from my car to the house, I could hear the crinkle of the ground beneath me. Ice was starting to form between the blades of grass. In a few moments, the transformation had gone from just a patch to a tapestry that spread through the yard. As the temperature dropped considerably in a short amount of time.. I watched as the ice made this clover its prisoner.

Le Père Noël Benjo et ses lutins feront vivre des moments magiques à tous les enfants présents. Chants de Noël, sucreries et fantaisies seront de la partie!

L’événement-bénéfice instigué par une donatrice au grand cœur, Mme Geneviève Marcon, femme d’affaires de Québec, reçoit chaque année plus de 300 convives venus vivre en famille une journée remplie de féérie tout en offrant une lueur d’espoir aux enfants et aux familles d’ici qui traversent des moments difficiles. L’objectif de cette année est d’amasser 50 000 $.

This is my third year being involved with the Dejeuner du Pere Noel Benjo. It has always been important for me to give back, even though it is something I don’t talk about very much. We donated a custom photography session for this year’s silent auction and just as the previous years, contributing our time to photograph the event. The event raised 50 000$ and will go a long way to help the palliative care unit.

And it wouldn't be a Dejeuner du Pere Noel without Santa !

This is one of my favorite images from the event. The eye contact, the moment.. is just pure magic. These are the singular moments I love to capture.

You know those days, when you spend a considerable amount of time on something and then well,... something happens or someone does something and you have to start again ? Today was one of those days.

I don't know how many times I've told my little one not to put her fingers in the windows, especially... right after I finish cleaning them. I was about to get out my mad mommy voice but I just couldn't. She was happy, smiling.. one of those child moments where life is beautiful, full of discovery and pure fun. I couldn't get upset with her. I just watched her and smiled. Oh, and I must add that she had just finished eating and her hands were just pure stickyness !

I couldn't wash it away.. every time I walked by her creation I smiled. As the sun was setting the light was making her little work of art all the more beautiful... I had to take a picture of it.

Always jump in the puddles! Always skip alongside the flowers.

The only fights worth fighting are the pillow and food varieties.

A night at the Aquarium

Every year, The aquarium de Québec holds a night time event for Halloween.

Something you should know about me is that I LOVE scary movies. I don't particularly enjoy being scared but I will torture myself and watch them anyway. I'll close my eyes when the music gets a little intense, sensing that something will happen... but I end up opening them because I am just too curious. In the end, I always get scared. It really is a LOVE-HATE relationship kind of thing !

And last night I got my dose of being scared. You see, this time the aquarium was staffed with hidden zombies that would leap out at you, grab your arm, etc. My kids didn't even make a jump or yell.. nope.. Mom did that all for them. If my count is correct, the zombies made me jump and yell like a little girl 7 times.

This is one of the Zombies... and some other interesting creatures from last night..

As I put my coffee down on the table, I had the realization that there, in front of me was a grouping of some of my favourite things.

Coffee.

The essential start of my day. From its aroma as it is brewing to the radiating warmth of the cup as I take it to my computer.. it is an important start to my morning routine.

Books.

I love books. Every book is different, from the paper, the type, the size.... to be able to turn a page, to hear the sound, the flick of the page, to stack them, thumb thru the pages, slide a bookmark into the crease. No E-books for me.

Light.

It casts shadows, it illuminates. Light. Soft, harsh. I've always had a fascination with light.. the way it moves, where it hides, the tricks it plays... the secrets it has yet to share with me.

I needed a fresh new photograph of moi for a little publication I'll be in next month.

For the last two years I've been hinting about a project I've been involved with, yet I have never really given any details or elaborated about what it was. At the end of November I'll share with you, my involvement and give you a little insight into the project that is so dear to my heart.
Here is a sneak peek of moi. Oh, you lucky bunch !!

Now, I don't particularly like being in front of the lens but I make it a point to at take at least one portrait of myself every year... so, someday the kids of my kids will know who was hiding behind the lens.

I've been dying to show you these images of Karine and her beautiful bump. We had a great session and her children are so much fun !!

This one you might remember from my original teaser, however this is the color version.

It is really great to see my little clients grow up. The first thing Karine's daughter told me when I came in the door was that she wouldn't do the "baboune" face. You see, the first time I did a family session with them, she was less than cooperative and I captured a few shots of the famous "baboune" face.. every time they would come up on the digital frame in the kitchen she would say, "c'est moi la baboune, regarde !!". How cute !!

What a difference a year makes as you can see from this next shot.

Driving back from a little road trip, I just had to stop by the side of the road to take a few shots of these horses. There are a few things I wished would have been different, the position of the horses heads for one, but I knew the light was fleeting and I had about another 30-40 seconds before the sun would be gone below the hills.

This is for Kip, a fellow photographer who quotes Chase Jarvis so well : the best camera is the one you have with you. :)

Another teaser for you !

Simon and Sabrina could not have chosen a more beautiful location for their wedding. The Harbottle Gardens in the Beauce region of Quebec is actually named after it's first owner. The Church is the oldest stone church in the Beauce, built in 1847.

Awesome bouquet .. I had to photoshop some bees out of certain shots because they loved her bouquet too !!

The church still has the original furniture inside.

Sharing with you some images of the couple session we had with Sandra and Nicolas earlier this summer.

I love couple sessions, getting to know their story, how they met. It also enables people to get comfortable in front of the lens. Couple sessions come with all our wedding packages and are perfect for save the date cards or custom invitations.

We were blessed with some beautiful light that day ! They couldn't keep their hands off eachother... and I absolutly loved capturing their emotion.

Taking advantage of no one being around ! :) It is actually quite rare to have this walkway deserted.

I took a quick trip to the Salon de la Mariée today; see what the trends will be for the coming year… I met some great people who are all passionate about what they do, from food to décor to entertainment.

Andree et Jordan - Photographe Mariage Québec Chauière-Appalache

Andree and Jordan had their couple session a while ago and since I'm catching up on the blog... I thought I'd share some shots of their session. I'll also be posting some of their wedding photos soon, so you'll want to check that out as well.

Andree's family owns some beautiful farmland overlooking the Saint-Laurence and of particular interest is the round barn. There are not many of these round barns left and it is very special to Andree and her family. She also told me that they built them round because the devil loves to hide in corners.. so to outwit the devil, they built them round.

The sky didn't want to cooperate and stayed gray and hazy.. however days like that lend themselves well to black and white images.

After the session, I found myself with a bunch of these prickly balls all over my clothes from lying on the ground to get a few different angles. I can't remember the name of these but Jordan told me that they are great for making balls and ummm... throwing them. hahhaaaa (do not try this at home kids !)

I can't wait to bring you their wedding images....

Helicopter adventure at sunrise

When my fellow photog friend Michel Roy let me know he was looking for two more passengers (Nino and myself) for a hellicopter ride over Quebec City.. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity. So, up at 6 am and headed to the airport for our tour with Capital Helipro.. just in time for sunrise over the city !

The doors were taken off for us to take photos, can I just tell you that at two thousand feet in a helicopter with no doors .. it's a bit cold and windy (and not just a bit)!! But I'm not complaining because it was a blast and I would do it again anytime !!

I was so bundled up with so many layers of clothing.. I look like a blue polar bear !

Of course, Mr. X came along for the ride in my pocket !

The church was absolutely magnificent, with its grandeur and architecture. Michel gets his first look at his bride... an intense moment as her father walks her down the aisle!

Another superb moment when Melanie gazes up at Michel just after she walks down the aisle to meet with him.. Her eyes tell you a wonderful story.

Quick stop at the Domaine Maizerets for a few formal shots before we head off to the intimate reception with friends and family.

Nouveau projet et Concours

Depuis un bon moment a germé en moi l’idée d’un projet à long terme. Une chose était importante, je voulais que le projet implique les enfants d’une manière ou d’une autre et que ça devienne une activité familiale intéressante et amusante.

J’ai laissé mijoté l’idée quelques mois et j’ai expliqué ce que j’avais en tête à ma fille la plus vielle. Elle a adoré et était prête à embarquer immédiatement. Sérieusement, intéresser ma fille de 12 à un de mes délires n’était pas, à première vue, une tâche facile !

Je sais que vous êtes tous curieux, mais avant…

Il était une fois…

En marchant dans les bois, la petite famille et moi, nous avons découvert cette petite créature adorable. Décidément, il était à des lieux de là où il aurait dû être…

Les enfants ont eu vite fait de l’adopter et tout le monde était heureux de cette addition à la famille...

Toutefois, nous n’avons pu nous entendre sur un nom et nous avons besoin de votre aide.

One of my brides has been begging me to get a Facebook page ... so why not ? And since this is all new and I need some Facebook love... when I hit 50 followers I'll be giving away a photo session. I'll work out all the details and post them on the Facebook page.

From the preparations to the toasts we had the privilege of being part of their day. There were many emotional moments between friends and family. While editing, I found myself smiling, laughing and at times with a tear in my eye.

I'd like to mention here, that not all images can be published with respect to privacy laws. So, here is but a glimpse of Valerie and Louis-Alexis' memorable day.

The ceremony took place at a beautiful little chapel close to the Saint-Laurence.

Oh, I just love the way they are smiling at each other here.

We were lucky enough to have done some formal shots before the ceremony and just after the cocktail at two different locations. Her bouquet, simply gorgeous.

As we were finishing up the formals... I headed off to the chapel and glanced over my shouler...I just love this image of the bridesmaids holding the dress as she heads up the hill.

Valerie et Louis-Alexis

A few hours before sunset we headed down to the shores of the Saint-Laurence with Valerie and Louis-Alexis for their couple session... These sessions are never complicated and we just shot them being them.

It can be a bit intimidating being youself with lenses pointed at you.. but after a while everything just falls into place and you get comfortable in front of the lense.

Here are just a few images from our sunset session with Valerie and Louis-Alexis.

Luckily we hit low tide.. but on the way back the water was considerably higher.

Most of the images from our session lent themself well to black and white post processing considering the textures and surroundings..

Sunsets are recipes for romance..

I'd like to share with you a few shots of a recent photo session I had with Guillaume and Genevieve.

Guillaume had a great shirt, hence the Title of the blog post.

The classic heart shot. Even if I have done this a gazillion times. I still love this shot. It reminds me of the following quote :

I absolutly love on location shoots where we just go with the flow. Genevieve was a great sport and was up to pretty much anything.

A feast for the eyes @ The Marché du vieux port

This is the time of year that I head down to the Marché du vieux port and pick up some freshness. I always grab those mini onions for boeuf bourginon, a huge 50 lbs bag of red potatoes and something sweet.. because I just can't resist ! I'll make a few more trips this month for sure.

Today it was busier than usual, being the long weekend. Even with the crowd I was albe to get some nice shots.

Now, I can't for the life of me remember what these yellow beauties are, but I know they will be tasty. The wonderful lady at the stand explained to me exactly how to cook them. (she told me not to peel them, blushes.. I probably would have !) I really admire these people, you can see the passion in their eyes, the way they handle the produce, always ready to help, explain...

The textures, the smells, the colors... everything is inspiring. I can't wait to bite into the tarte au sucre later :)
